We had clouds moving through for a while last evening, but once again the sky cleared up for us, this time about midnight. Good thing to know: there are visually stunning views to be had by cruising a partly cloudy sky with binoculars. M7 and M6 with a very 3-dimensional dark cloud grouping that looked like it belonged in the Milky Way decorating the view and framing the objects was one of the most breathtakingly beautiful sights I’ve ever seen.

Nope, not going to give up hoping for clear skies on observing nights, but all of a sudden partly cloudy doesn’t seem to mean skip it and stay in anymore.

We have more viewing ahead for the weekend, plus guest speakers Stephen Odewahn, speaking on Galaxy Morphology and Evolution at 4:00 PM today, and Michael Prokosch speaking on Astronomy in Chile Educators Ambassadors Program at 4:00 PM tomorrow.

Doorprizes will be awarded on Saturday afternoon (must be present to win).

We are definitely on a roll this week! Leftover daytime clouds dissipated and gave way to fully clear sky again last night, and mildly cool temps in the low 60s, dipping in the early morning to 57 by about 4:30.

There are a couple of vendor tents with us on the field this week, so if you have yet to visit Scott and Gary at Explore Scientific’s canopy or Bruce at the Polemaster canopy, by all means stop by and check out the scopes and accessories.

Wow! Another great night here at ESP! From a cloudy day, the skies cleared off as dusk came on and again we had horizon-to-horizon viewing. We had high humidity so dewheating equipment came into use; humidity will be dropping for the rest of the week though, and the forecast is showing clear nights all the way through Sunday, so shaping up to be a great run at ESP this year!

11:00 PM: The skies actually cleared of clouds earlier than expected – horizon to horizon window was open by 8 PM,observing and imaging have been underway all evening so far!

We have a clear sky, low humidity, and a lovely bright Milky Way showing. Temp is in the 60s. Folks are cruising through the observing programs, and enjoying the sky!
